Dr. Melissa James
Kansas State University
As the granddaughter of a veterinarian, Dr. Melissa James never really had a different goal in life for a career path. She grew up on Cape Cod surrounded by a few pets, and loved any second she got to spend with any other animals - whether that was sea creatures, summer camp farm animals or local lesson horses. She got her Bachelor’s of Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a Commonwealth Scholar, was a member of the UMASS marching band, attended the University of Glasgow as a junior-year-abroad, and graduated Cum Laude. Dr. James then ventured west to Kansas State University for her DVM degree, and fell in love with the great plains and the midwest and soaked herself in every opportunity to explore livestock and production animal medicine. After graduation she spent 10 years learning and growing in northwest Ohio before moving to southwest Iowa where she now resides with her two children. The family currently has three rambunctious dogs - a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon “Astro”, a German Wirehaired Pointer “Jedi” and a Shih Tzu "Sully". The barn holds a revolving door of barn cats and horses - some are permanent residents, some are transient visitors. All are well-fed and much loved.
Dr. James is an avid “locavore” and loves checking out local restaurants, shops and experiences wherever she goes. Her teens keep her incredibly busy with their activities, there's never a dull moment!

Dr. Anne Stanton
University of Wisconsin Madison
Dr. Anne Stanton grew up in central Wisconsin on her parent’s dairy farm where they raised and showed registered Holstein cattle. Her father, with whom she spent many days riding along on farm calls as a child, was a large animal veterinarian. This exposure to animal health and agriculture, as well as the year her family spent overseas as mission volunteers for their church when she was very young, ultimately led her to pursue her career in veterinary medicine with emphasis in public health. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Thereafter, she attended the Medical College of Wisconsin where she earned her Masters of Public Health.
She now resides back in central Wisconsin on the farm she grew up on with her husband and their four children – a girl and three boys. Their family extends to include two yellow labs (Truman and Marlow), two cats (Ivan and Agnes), rabbits, a pony (Freckles), fish, a hamster (Hamilton John) and a flock of chickens. Dr. Stanton is particularly interested in public health/zoonotic diseases, internal medicine and small animal ultrasound. In her spare time, she enjoys being active in their church, their kid’s schools and 4-H club, and of course the adventure of raising and making memories with their four children!
